Suggested Steps for Escaping Push and Crash

Pacing provides the way to escape the vicious cycle of push and crash. The three steps of pacing are:

1) Find Your Limits
The key to pacing is to stay within the limits imposed by CFS and/or fibro. You can find your limits through experimentation and record keeping. For specifics, see the Finding Your Envelope page.

2) Adapt to Your Limits
The second step of pacing is adjusting your life to fit within your limits. This is a gradual process, involving the use of multiple strategies. See Pacing Strategies pages.

3) Expand Your Limits
If you pace consistently, you may be able to expand your limits, doing more without intensifying your symptoms. The keys are to extend your limits a little bit at a time and to return to your previoius level if the extension increases your symptoms. See the Expanding the Envelope page.
