Suggested Steps for Guilt

Guilt is another frequent companion of people with CFS and FM. Here are three ways to respond.

Step 1: Lower Your Expectations
If you experience "false guilt" because what you expect from yourself is greater than your capabilities, adjust your expectations to match your current level of functioning.

Step 2: Apologize and Make Amends
If you hurt others, apologize and, where appropriate, make amends.

Step 3: Educate Others
If others expectations are unrealistic and lead you to feel guilty, educate them about your limits.
