Suggested Steps for Pain

Because pain in CFS and FM can have a variety of causes, it is usually managed with a variety of strategies. We suggest you consider starting with the three steps below.

Step 1: Scheduled Rests
A frequent cause of pain is overdoing; the antidote is pacing. A good place to begin is by taking one or two planned rests daily.

Step 2: Exercise
Exercise can reduce stiffness, counteract deconditioning, improve mood and make daily activites easier.

Step 3: Relaxation
Pain often triggers muscle tension and anxiety, both of which, in turn, intensify pain. You can interrupt this vicious cycle by taking time daily to relax.
